Twitter is officially X.com now, Elon Musk announces domain transition

Twitter is officially X.com now

Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur, has officially announced the transition of the social networking platform, Twitter, to X.com. The platform, which was previously accessible via twitter.com, now redirects users to X.com.

This significant change comes after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October 2022. Following the acquisition, Musk not only renamed Twitter to X but also replaced the company’s iconic bird symbol with a new logo representing X.

Today, when users attempted to visit twitter.com, they were seamlessly redirected to x.com. A pop-up notification welcomed users who accessed the site via their browsers. The notification reassured users that despite the change in URL, their privacy and data protection settings would remain unchanged.

Elon Musk took to X, the newly rebranded platform, to share that the transition from Twitter to x.com had been fully completed. In his post, he stated, “All core systems are now on x.com.” Accompanying his post was an image of a new logo, a white X enclosed in a blue circle. The logo features two shades of blue, leaving users in anticipation of whether Musk will introduce another logo change.

A similar message now greets users at the bottom of the X login page, reiterating that despite the URL change, users’ privacy and data protection settings will remain the same.

X, an app by X Corp

The rebranding of Twitter to X was announced last year, following Musk’s completion of a $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter in October 2022. Consequently, users are now engaging with X, an application under X Corp.

Elon Musk’s decision to rename Twitter to X aligns with his longstanding interest in the name X. In 1999, Musk launched X.com, an online bank that later merged with PayPal. Nearly two decades later, Musk repurchased the X.com domain from PayPal. Musk envisions X as a versatile “everything app” that enables social media sharing, meal ordering, and financial transactions. The acquisition of Twitter is just the beginning of Musk’s broader vision for X.
