Know About Dwarka
Dwarkanagari which is mentioned in Vishnu Purana, Srimad Bhagavata, Mahabharata, Kshapaka Granth Harivamsa, Skandapurana, Jainagamas and other reference texts. It is said that Lord Manu’s son Yayati had a daughter named Sukanya and younger sons Uttanabarhi, Anarta and Bhurishena. Anarta’s son Raivat ruled over Anartadesh (present-day Gujarat), a town situated in the middle of the sea. The city founded by this Raivat is Dwarkapuri. Lord Krishna and Balarama lived there along with all the Yadavas.
There are four main abodes of Lord Krishna in India, one of which is Dwarka. Apart from this, there is Badrinath in the north, Jagannath in the east, Rameshwar Dham in the south. Along with Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, Haridwar, Kanchi and Ujjain, Dwarka is also one of the seven cities of salvation. Tourists from all over India and the world visit Dwarka. Near Dwarka is the river Gomati whose confluence with the sea is called Gomatitirtha. There is a Jagatmandir of Lord Shrikrishna, Dwarkadhish, on the banks of the ocean. After bathing in the Gomti and climbing fifty-six steps, devotees enter the Jagat Mandir through ‘Svargadwar’.
Dwarkadhish temple is famous as the abode of Lord Krishna on earth. Here sits the quadrupedal form of Lord Krishna on a silver throne. Conch, mace, wheel and lotus are seen in his hands. There are also traces of his feet here.
Shri Krishna fled from Mathura with his Yadava clan and came here 5000 years ago and established Dwarka. Dwarka Nagri is one of the four Dhams in the country founded by Adi Shankaracharya. Also this place is one of the holy Saptapuri. Here, where the palace of Lord Shrikrishna was Harigriha, today Dwarkadhish temple is built.
